Nanotechnology: Visible-Light-Driven Purification

The carpet's core purification power lies in its breakthrough application of "visible-light-responsive TiO₂ coating." Using a sol-gel method, the technical team forms a 50nm-thick anatase titanium dioxide (TiO₂) layer on pebble surfaces, doped with nitrogen (N-TiO₂) to extend its light response to the visible spectrum (400-760nm). This means no UV lamp is needed-ordinary indoor lighting or natural light can activate its catalytic activity.

When air pollutants (formaldehyde, TVOC, bacteria, etc.) contact the pebble surface, photo-generated electrons and holes react with water and oxygen in the air to produce hydroxyl radicals (·OH) with strong oxidizing properties, decomposing pollutants into harmless CO₂ and water. Test data shows: in a 30㎡ enclosed space with 10㎡ of this carpet, formaldehyde degradation reaches 92% within 6 hours (from 0.3mg/m³ to 0.024mg/m³, well below the national standard of 0.08mg/m³); antibacterial rates against E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus hit 99.9% with no secondary pollution.

Crucially, its sustain purification: the coating's quantum efficiency reaches 4.2%, with only 3% activity decay after 1000 hours of light exposure-far better than traditional photocatalysts (15% decay in 100 hours)-enabling "one installation, years of effectiveness."

Authority Verification: Purification from Lab to Real Scenes

The photocatalytic pebble carpet has passed full testing under GB/T 18801-2022 Air Purifiers, excelling in core indicators like "clean air delivery rate (CADR)" and "cumulative clean mass (CCM)": its formaldehyde CADR is 86m³/h, equivalent to a medium-sized air purifier, but with zero energy consumption (fully relying on natural light).

A pilot application in a Shanghai kindergarten confirms its practical value. After installing the carpet in a 200㎡ activity room, 3-month monitoring shows indoor formaldehyde stabilized at 0.03-0.05mg/m³-over 70% lower than uncarpeted areas (0.12-0.15mg/m³); absenteeism due to respiratory discomfort dropped from 8% to 2% monthly. The principal noted children love the natural pebble texture and often play barefoot on it, with no risk of chemical residues-the coating passed skin irritation tests (OECD 404) with no sensitization, meeting child safety standards.

Self-Cleaning Function: Activity Regeneration via Rain

Traditional photocatalysts lose activity when covered by pollutants, but this carpet achieves complete self-cleaning through "structural design + coating properties." The natural curved surface of pebbles reduces dust accumulation, and the TiO₂ coating is superhydrophilic (water contact angle <5°)-when rinsed by rain or water, a water film forms on the surface, washing away reaction residues and attached dust without manual wiping.

Accelerated aging tests show: after 50 simulated heavy rain washes (10L water per square meter), the photocatalytic activity recovery rate reaches 100%; after 30 days of continuous use in a polluted environment with PM2.5 at 150μg/m³, a single water rinse fully restores purification capacity. This makes it suitable not only for indoors but also balconies and patios, maintaining long-term activity through natural rain-truly "maintenance-free purification."
